Toronto’s roads are deteriorating at an unacceptable pace. Potholes are no longer a seasonal inconvenience, they are a year-round hazard damaging vehicles, increasing insurance costs, and putting cyclists and drivers at risk across the city.
ABC Toronto is calling for an immediate tripling of the City’s pothole repair budget and a shift toward proactive, not reactive, road maintenance. The current approach, patching holes after they appear, is inefficient, more costly over time, and leaves residents frustrated.
We demand:
- A 3x increase in pothole repair funding
- Deployment of rapid-response repair teams within 24 hours of reporting
- A transition to preventative resurfacing programs in high-risk corridors
- Public reporting dashboards tracking response times and repair volumes
Toronto is a global city, its infrastructure must reflect that. Residents deserve safe, smooth roads, not a patchwork system that fails every spring.
City Hall must fix the roads, and must do it properly.
