Across Toronto, construction projects routinely leave behind broken sidewalks, uneven pavement, and degraded roads. Residents are left paying the price long after contractors have moved on.
ABC Toronto is introducing a “Leave It Better” Standard: any contractor cutting into city streets or sidewalks must restore the surface to a condition equal to or better than before work began.
Our plan includes:
- Mandatory pre- and post-construction condition audits
- Financial holdbacks until full restoration standards are met
- A minimum 2-year warranty on all restoration work
- Significant penalties and blacklisting for repeat offenders
Too often, taxpayers subsidize poor workmanship. That ends now.
If you build in Toronto, you fix it properly.
